WordPress to host or go free?

With wordpress now offering a wonderful free blog, it really makes you

evaluate why pay for hosting. There are however some things I would like to explain

that is not commonly discussed. Before making a decision look over the differences.

I have seen both, I have worked with both there are a few differences.

  1. You are on WordPress Server
  2. You are limited by what plugins can go on this system
  3. Limitations on what you can add
  4. Limited to templates
  5. It does have a great wordpress platform and great for the novice.

It is great if you are new to any sort of blog, and if you are going for any type of free blog

system I think this would have to be one of the best choices. However I was so limited.

I believe creativity is really alive on the internet, the variety of plugins and templates

that are at your finger tips are really to your advantage. Also if your having someone go

in and design for you, you need to be able to let them do what they need to.

If your a business or your topic is serious to you, you want leverage. Your wisest choice

is hosting with wordpress and have an edge on competition. It can be looking like a website

with the new systems out, making perfect sense to use as you still have blog capabilities.

What would you look for when using a self hosted wordpress blog hoster?

So more pointedly what do you get if you host it yourself?

  1. Custom design
  2. Template changes
  3. Additional plugins not available to general public free
  4. Back-ups are easy and done on server plus wordpress backup system if you prefer
  5. Paid templates easy to insert & install
  6. No limitations – this has to be the most important part to hosting your own wordpress site. (Being limited if you are an artist or a designer or a hip firm.
  7. FTP access
  8. Set up mobile access
  9. More upload space, especially important if a lot of your content is visual
  10. It does not cost much it is very affordable.

WordPress systems are free with installing, it makes sense. Most cpanels have installers so no

technical knowledge for installation. So good if you like to do it yourself. Also you can get

hosting for little cost, starting at $2.95 (NZ) for paid hosting.

So really ask yourself; do I want to be limited? Or do you want control?

Want to know which hosting I would use?  Of course I go for the paid wordpress option.
